Another problem is the amount of metal that reaches landfills. Enough steel is used in one day in the United State that you run a pipeline from New York to Los Angeles and then back to New York again, but we will only see about 60% of this being recycled. Can you imagine all the space this is taking in our landfills? Other than steel most metals have a valuable reward that comes with feeling good about recycling, like money. Several common metal products that are worth more than pennies include; aluminum cans, aluminum siding, aluminum gutters, aluminum car parts, electrical copper wire, copper pipe, phone wire, plumbing brass and much more.

I don't have much to recycle so it isn't worth recycling, right?
Wrong! Did you know from recycling one aluminum pop can that the energy saved could power your TV for 3 hours and it saves 95% of the energy used to recycle opposed to the refining from raw aluminum ore? Just the current aluminum recycling in United States alone saves enough energy to light the entire city of Denver for over 10 years. Every 60 seconds about 10,000 tin cans will end up at our landfills. Add that up for one day. Recycling steel also saves lots of energy figuring that it takes 74% more energy to make steel from raw iron ore. Still feel your little bit won’t help?

Where should I take my recyclable metals?
Action Recycling is currently taking most metals and paying you for almost all of your non-ferrous metal. If you are not in Denver check for a location near you to find out what you can recycle in your area. If you do not know of any centers near you try your local county government office for suggestions.
